The surface should be sanded and primed before painting.
“If I have a black car, can I simply buff out the gelcoat on the fiberglass parts? ”
In some cases, the gelcoat surface is good enough to do this, however, we do not guarantee this will be so, nor do we recommend this. A high quality automotive paint finish is the best way to go for durability, and matched appearance.
