Chevy Camaro Outsells Mustang in 2010

As 2010 car sales figures roll in, we learn that the new Chevy Camaro outsold the Ford Mustang for the first time since 1985. Impressively, GM outsold the popular Ford model without offering a convertible or competitor for the Shelby GT500. Ford Motor Company sold a total of 73,716 Mustangs in 2010 compared to 81,371 Camaros for GM.

The sales performance of the Camaro is great news for GM, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June of 2009. The news of the Camaro’s 2010 performance may also have implications the popular Z28. As of now, fans of the legendary muscle car can only rely on rumors that it will make a return towards the end of the new year as a 2012 model year vehicle. The high-performance Chevrolet Camaro Z28 model did not make an appearance at last year’s Detroit Auto Show, but enthusiasts are hoping to get a sneak peak at 2011’s auto shows.
